Service Awards

   
The awards pictured below are presented to officers who meet the requirements set forth for each particular award.  Some awards recognize the officer's accomplishments in a particular assignment while others recognize an officer's exceptional performance of duty in a particular incident.

The awards may be worn by the officer on the Class "A" and Class "B" uniform  above the right breast pocket.

It is the policy of South Windsor Police Services to recognize members of the Agency for achieving meritorious levels of service. The Agency shall also recognize citizens who make a significant contribution to the services provided by the South Windsor Police.

Award Classification
1. Medal of Valor - Gold
An award to any member for an act of conspicuous gallantry, above and beyond the call of duty, while in a police situation where the recipient’s life is in imminent danger. This award shall be the highest bestowed by the Department.
2. Medal of Merit - Silver
An award to any member for an act of outstanding heroism, such as the saving of a life, through which the recipient demonstrates the characteristics of selflessness, personal courage and total devotion to duty.
3. Lifesaving Medal
An award to any member for an act which directly results in the saving of another person’s life. The act must be exemplary in nature and reflect the true spirit of police service.
4. Chief’s Award
An award to any member for an outstanding accomplishment which has resulted in improved administration, improved operation, or substantial savings in manpower or operational costs, and where the recipient has gone above and beyond the requirements of his/her normal assignment to contribute to more effective and efficient police service, or for outstanding police work which has brought great credit to the Department in a case of unusual public interest.
